Employment Information

DATES: April 4th, 2015 – July 7th, 2015.
PAY: Commensurate with experience

The Irish Repertory Theatre is looking for a highly self-motivated individual with a well-rounded skill set.  Some minimum requirements are:

•    Basic to intermediate carpentry and electrical skills.
•    Basic knowledge of ETC expression series consoles is preferred.
•    Valid driver’s license.
•    Basic backstage working experience.

Work with the staff Technical Director, Producing Director and General Manager in coordinating all aspects of the technical process for our upcoming production of BELLE OF BELFAST:

•    Create and implement a working schedule for directors, designers, and production shops.
•    Hire and assist a crew for set demo.
•    Coordinate lighting strike and load in with electricians and/or production shop.
•    Assist with lighting load in and strike.
•    Schedule and coordinate with off-site production shop.
•    Assist production shop with load in and load out.
•    Schedule and hire scenic painters and be present for all evening paint calls.
•    Assist sound and lighting designers as needed.
•    Schedule crews and designers for work time.
•    Coordinate with designers and production manager for rentals and special purchases.
•    Work with SM and ASM in scheduling tech process.
•    Work all tech days (usually a Saturday, Sunday, and Tuesday).
•    Work all shows during the course of the run.
•    Show schedule is 8 shows a week Tuesdays through Sundays.
•    Duties include checking lights, sound, projections, and any maintenance to the set.
•    Backstage duties at the request of the SM and ASM.
•    Act as TD for any other upcoming productions during the dates listed above.
•    Order any expendables before and during the run.
•    Provide technical support and coordination for any special events at the request of the producing director, including the Irish Rep’s Benefit Gala on Monday, June 8.
•    Maintain off-site storage spaces and tech booth.
•    Assist with props acquisition.

Audition Information

Traditionally we hold one Equity Principal Audition (EPA) call per production, which is always listed in Backstage and/or Playbill. If time allows, we will see non-Equity actors during the EPAs. While we may do casting at other times, those are usually through agent submissions. We do not accept unsolicited headshots or resumes. No phone calls, please.


The Irish Rep uses volunteer ushers for all performances. Volunteer ushers receive one (1) free ticket for the performance in which they volunteer. To volunteer, please email Morgan McAslan at to receive information via email about ushering opportunities in the future. Acceptance is on a first-come, first-serve basis based on availability and occurs two (2) weeks prior to the first preview of every production.

Internship Information

We are always seeking eager, creative, and responsible students of business management, drama, or liberal arts. College credit and/or a small travel stipend are, on occassion, available. Internships start in January, May, and September. A minimum of 16 hours (or 2 days) per week is requested. Internships may last for the length of a semester, a whole academic year, or only the length of a production (roughly 12 weeks). Internships will consist of a variety of general responsibilities plus a "concentration" in development, management, or production.

General Responsibilities

  • General administrative tasks (filing, faxing, etc.)
  • Assist with telephones
  • Data entry and record keeping

Development Assistant

Responsibilities include:

  • Research information about prospective donors
  • Proposal preparation and processing
  • Data entry and record keeping
  • Letter & proposal writing
  • Event Coordination

Production Assistant

Responsibilities Include:

  • General Production Assisting
  • Assistant Director & Stage Manager (s)
  • Event Coordination

Management Assistant

Responsibilities Include:

  • General Arts Administration
  • Assist all staff with producing, artistic administration, development, membership, box office, and front-of-house.
  • Event Coordination

Literary Assistant

Responsibilities Include:

  • Tracking incoming scripts
  • Writing reader reports on selected manuscripts
  • Assisting literary manager with New Works Reading Series
  • Attending readings and productions
  • Assisting with the general maintenance of the lit department library
  • Excellent writing skills essential. Dramaturgy students encouraged.
